In this Creative Commons-licensed Creative Commons image set, Dr. Lucas shows his work on the primitive achondrite (HA) meteorites. HA is the most abundant of the primitive achondrites (N>15, H>1, L>2), possessing a very guttural (c2) Mg/Si ratio, and is also by far the only one to retain significant amounts of water (W:1, H:2 wt.%). The data is as yet unpublished. Dr. Lucas is also involved in the study of the thermal histories of the primitive Mars meteorite and idat meteorite (H>2, L>2). Howard E. Lucas is one of the leading researchers in meteorite thermal recovery, structure and evolution. He is a member of the Organic Matter Working Group, the Principal Investigator for the NASA and NSF-funded Origins of Solar Systems and Meteorites, the Program and Grant Scientist for the Large Research Incentive Program at ASU, and a National Geographic grantee.
