The film takes place four centuries after the original trilogy, where witch hunting is illegal. In a world run by "the Major", the "28 Families" control the government, who keep the peace through a combination of bribery and threat. When the Major's next-in-command, Alina Vratova, is murdered, her daugther, Osric, is framed for the crime. The Witches' Tribunal then sentences Osric to death while the Major orders the attack squad, "The Hunter's Brigade," to kill everyone to find the Witch's child, who Alina had told to take care of.[19] The Hunter's Brigade is led by a vampire, Zarek, who appoints Wong as their new leader.[20] Before the Hunter's Brigade can act on their mission, Virgil, a witch hunter hired by Wong, rescues Osric and saves the child.[21] The Hunters track the child and the Witch's child to the titular crystals, the Next World, and are unable to kill them, remembering too much from their last world.[22] Instead, the Witches' Tribunal sentences Osric to death, mainly, the Judges do not trust him.[23][24][25] While in prison, Osric's mother is also infected with the demon plague, but is cured by Wong and Zarek.[26] Osric then agrees to lead the Hunters to the witches, believing he can expose their corrupt dealings with a new document.[27] This leads to a battle between Osric, Wong and Zarek, In the middle of fighting each other, Osric is killed by the Major, who asks Wong and Zarek to stop the Hunters from killing any more witches.[28] Before dying, Osric's mother puts the evidence he was looking for into Zarek's mouth.[29] After, Wong sends Zarek to the Next World to track down the evidence.
