If you're using high-end graphics technology and are experiencing graphic lockups in the motherboard or graphics card driver software, it could be a problem with one of your video cards. Not to worry, you can attempt to figure out what's causing the problem by testing each of your video cards until you find the culprit. To diagnose one of these issues, you need to use the dual monitor/desktop mode. This is the optimal setup for diagnosing video card problems. When you turn on your computer, there should be a beep and display of the motherboard name. Press keys F4 (for details, see test video card stability ), and press the Windows key + A to move the cursor to the desktop. There will be an icon for a small video card in the taskbar. According to the motherboard name and the name of your GPU (graphics processing unit), double-click the icon. This will cause a desktop with both monitors to appear. In the right monitor show your motherboard name and in the left monitor show your GPU name.
If you have a legal copy of Windows or Mac OS X, you can use a product key recovery program to restore your serial number. In my case, I needed to contact the vendor and they were able to send me a new one via email. Serial numbers are generally non-searchable, so if you want to try to find which of your Windows 7, Vista or XP product keys support the serial number that is on your PC, you might need to print it up. d2c66b5586
